Announcements / Comments
Question for conversation: Do you use a balun, unun, or other transformer in your setup? How? Did you buy it or make it?
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- Use a 4:1 ferrite core balun for impedance matching from 50 Ohm unbalanced coax to 300-ish Ohm balanced ladder line
Ron Hambric (N5SBN)
- Reminder: ARES net tonight
- 443.425 MHz FM (KD5DLW) repeater
- 20:30 or after W5BCS net
- Interesting email from TX RACES
- Civil Air Patrol has been circling over KY and TN to provide comms for those on the ground there with the flooding
Rich Rychetsky (KI5QNR)
- Balun from Matthew Barry (KG5LYE) does indeed work very well!
- Definitely worth the pizza and bottle of wine… I think I came out ahead on that deal!
Jim Hanks Jr. (W5CYN)
- Use 2 baluns
- 4:1 that was purchased; on my base doublet antenna
- 49:1 that I made; end-fed “random wire” antenna
- Very satisfying to build one yourself, and they work very well
- Robertson County ARES has begun their weekly nets
- Thursday nights at 20:00
- W5KVN repeater (Franklin)
- Anyone interested is welcome to attend
Bill Rose (K5WTR)
- 49:1 is an interesting ratio
- have one that came with my beam antenna
Phil Gates (N5ZKF)
- Have a 4:1 air-core balun on my off-center-fed dipole
