Question for conversation: What is your favorite operating mode and why? Analog, digital, CW, FM, AM, SSB?

  • I like using SSB on 20 m and 40 m for voice to talk around the world
  • CW QRP: it’s amazing to see how far you can get on low power
  • FM digital (D-STAR) and analog on the local repeaters

Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ)

  • I spend time playing with VARA HF
  • satisfying to the sound connecting; takes me back to the old dial-up connections
  • sending emails over the radio is a great step in emergency comms

Bill Rose (K5WTR)

  • SSB 10 m, 20 m, 15 m mostly
    • talked around the world
    • also like doing QRP

Jeff McDowell (KI5CES)

  • I like FM to talk on the net; great to catch up with everyone every week
  • SSB is my preferred mode on HF
  • FT8 seems like cheating 🙂
  • wish I could do CW
