W5BCS hosted a productive 2010 Field Day event on Saturday & Sunday, June 26-27th. at the Southwood Valley Park Pavilion in College Station. Event was attended by over fifty amateur radio operators, family, friends, and several special guests.
Activities included the use of two antenna tower trailers…..one using a HF beam and the other supporting 6m and other antennas. Two operating stations were manned, using generator power and a computer logging program.
Other activities included:
- VE testing session, with both Technician and General class exams being given.
- silent auction which generated funding for the club.
- presentation on Traffic Nets, from Sharon KC8EO (Texas Traffic Net – 3873).
- visit by the Brazos County Sheriff, Chris Kirk.
- video media segment done by KBTX.
- catered meal, provided by Buppy’s Bar-B-Que.
- raffle, which awarded two prizes……an antenna tuner and power supply.
- birthday cake and ice cream for one of our members.
- W5BCS banner, celebrating Field Day.
The Club would like to thank all members who made this a successful Field Day…..much planning and logistical effort went into making this a successful operation.
Please join us at our next monthly meeting……August 7th, at the College Station Conf Center at 0930hrs.

The VE team will be giving Amateur Radio Exams on Saturday, March 27th at 9:00 a.m. at the College Station Conference Center. 1300 George Bush Dr. College Station, TX The cost is $15 and you will need to know your Social Security Number for the FCC application form. Also bring two forms of ID, one of which must have your photo on it.
If you are upgrading you also need to bring a copy of license to be turned in with the FCC application and the original license to compare the copy to.
